The second round of the 2022 FIFA World Cup group stage kicks off when the Netherlands play Ecuador in Group A.
Both teams scored solid 2-0 wins in their first games, with the Netherlands beating Senegal and Ecuador beating Qatar.
It was more elementary for Ecuador, who dominated the first leg and got a double from Enner Valencia’s uniformed striker. Meanwhile, the Netherlands were nervous against Senegal but managed to score a couple of goals thanks to Cody Gakpo and Davy Klaasen.
With both teams top of the group this matchup will go a long way in not only determining which team will qualify but also who will top the group which is a vital difference for getting a softer draw in 1/ 8 finals.

Netherlands vs Ecuador odds
The Netherlands have a chance to beat Ecuador in the second Group A match of the tournament despite not looking very convincing in the first match against Senegal. However, their offensive firepower makes the Dutch dangerous and Ecuador could be left without their talisman for this matchup.
It’s the question marks around Valencia that tip the scales towards fewer goals, when fewer and both teams don’t score, both have slanted odds.

Netherlands vs Ecuador: 3 things to know
News of the Dutch national team against Ecuador
Before the opening match, the head coach of the Netherlands national team, Louis van Gaal, said that Memphis Depay will miss the game due to injury. He then came off the bench as a substitute. That being said, it’s entirely possible that Depay could be available to start this game, but Van Gaal’s comments mean that’s something one can only speculate on.
Ecuador saw the mascot Valencia break away from a knee injury in the 77th minute after scoring both goals in the first leg — a serious problem for a team that doesn’t have anyone as powerful up front. It looks like Valencia will be the real deal during the game as head coach Gustavo Alfaro is unsure of his status just 24 hours before kick-off. The only other injury of concern to La Tri is 25-year-old winger Joao Rojas, who is out of the tournament with an ACL tear.

- Estimation forecast: Netherlands 1-0
Ecuador as a team is very similar to Senegal, but with a better centre-forward. However, it will be very difficult for the South American side to break through the best team in Group A and achieve a result.
Both teams have an internal path to qualification, and a win by either side will officially confirm a place in the playoffs.

Netherlands vs Ecuador: best bets
As both sides take a giant leap towards qualifying with wins in their first games, there won’t be as much momentum or urgency for either nation to capture a winner here. However, nothing is decided yet and first place in the group will be important if you want to avoid the likely Group B winners England in the round of 16.
Netherlands vs Ecuador best bet
- To choose: Both teams won’t score
- Chances: -135 (BetMGM)
The Netherlands have exceeded the expected number of goals many times over in their last seven matches. — and at some point it may come to roost. Against Senegal in the first match of the group stage, they scored twice, creating almost no chances (0.67 xG). Against a defensively strong team like Ecuador — which can also hold a stretch ball when needed — The Netherlands will have a hard time getting through.
Betting on the Netherlands against Ecuador
- To choose: Over 4.5 cards
- Chances: +150 (fan duel)
Both of these teams have at least one player with a walking yellow card. The Netherlands should encourage Matthijs de Ligt to take a disciplinary tact, while Jegson “Sebas” Mendez was lucky not to get a red card for a bad tackle in Ecuador’s first leg.
With Ecuador likely looking to get into a physical fight with the Netherlands, and a few Dutch players possibly getting frustrated, this could be a hack festival and produce a lot of cards.
