Detective is a sub-genre that has largely faded into obscurity for a while, much to the dismay of viewers who champion good detective stories. However, it has made a comeback in quite a big way with releases like Murder on the Orient Express, Death on the Nile, Watch Them Run and, most importantly, Knives Out.
Released in 2019, it was directed by Rian Johnson, who previously directed Brick, Looper and most famously Star Wars: The Last Jedi. After being introduced to the franchise’s blockbuster, he decided to create a small detective comedy with a composite cast, mostly set in one location.
It was acclaimed by critics and the general public alike, with fans eagerly awaiting Daniel Craig’s lead detective Benoit Blanc to return immediately afterward.
Indeed, yes, but do you need to watch Knives Out before Glass Bow?
Should I watch “Knives Out” before “Glass Bow”?
No, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery presents viewers with a whole new mystery to dive into. Although Daniel reprises his role in Knives Out, the predecessor’s central mystery plays no part in the sequel.
Those who haven’t seen Knives Out will have no problem with the plot, as all of the characters Benoit encounters are new to the developing franchise.
All viewers need to know is that Benoit is eager to take on a new and difficult task, but this is stated in the first act of The Glass Bow.
Ultimately, the Knives Out franchise provides an opportunity to offer viewers a whole new mystery and cast in every movie.
As for what to expect this time around, tech billionaire Miles Bron (played by Edward Norton) invites his friends to his private island to investigate a murder mystery, and Benoit is unexpectedly invited despite not having any relationship with the guests or owner.
However, it is soon revealed that the detective needs to solve the real case when the party is interrupted by a startling crime.
