The Primate Watching Club will reopen next year. Do Not Feed the Monkeys 2099, Fictiorama Studios’ action-packed sequel to the hilarious adventure, has finally set a release date of 2023. The title that we blew up during playtesting last summer, and which this week after making a splash at the Golden Joystick Awards, announced its release date. And the day chosen is March 9, 2023.
Do Not Feed the Monkeys 2099 picks up where its predecessor left off, putting players in the shoes of voyeur monkeys who spy on strangers through security cameras, observing and analyzing every aspect of their bizarre daily lives. A satirical vision of a potential future in which our deepest secrets serve as currency and tickling for our monkey lords and masters. To find out more, you can watch our full interview with the producer. Louis Olivantalking about the differences between the original and its sequel, set during a pandemic.
“Yes, it definitely influenced the stories of 2099. Our goal was to portray a society that developed more aggressively than it does now. For example, in the game, planet Earth was completely devastated because it ran out of resources, but there are planets that try to mimic planet Earth from a nostalgic point of view, like, “Oh, planet Earth was so cool, everything is beautiful, let’s recreate planet Earth.” There are also large international companies. who now sponsor the planets. These planets are named after companies, there are companies that completely control the planets, so this is the idea of aggressive capitalism to the maximum, where even now companies own the planets and use them for advertising and marketing purposes. We wanted to take the current situation and take it to the extreme to see what happened then. The game also allows us to reflect on the current society, which is what we did with Do Not Feed the Monkeys, but in a deeper sense. An extreme way, for example: “Well, if the current world continues to move at the same pace, where will this take us?” We thought this might lead us to the situation we portray in Don’t Feed the Monkeys 2099.
Along with the announcement of the release date, a demo of the game has also been released on Steam and is now available to everyone, as well as a new trailer, which you can watch below. And remember: “Whatever you do, don’t feed the monkeys”.
