The Gaurs will look to win in a row for the first time since the start of the season, while the Blues can’t wait to break their four-loss streak.
Goa bounced back perfectly from their loss to the Kerala Blasters with a 3-0 win over ATK Mohun Bagan last week. Noah Weil Sadawi came off the bench to score his fourth goal of the season for Gaur.
This made Sadawy the 2022-23 ISL top scorer along with Chennaiyin FC’s Abdenasser El Hayati and Kerala Blaster FC’s Ivan Kalyuzhny.
Álvaro Vazquez took Sadawi’s place in the starting XI after recovering from injury.
However, in the last two games, the striker failed to hit the net.
Speaking before the game, FCG head coach Carlos Peña said: “This is going to be a very tough game. We will be playing against a team that is not in the best mood right now, but they have very good players with a winning mentality. Tomorrow is going to be one of the hardest, if not the hardest game we’ve played so far.”
Bangalore FC is approaching this game with unprecedented form. The Blues found themselves on the wrong end of a 4-0 loss against Mumbai City last week.
The loss saw them equal their record of four consecutive losses in the 2020–21 Hero ISL season.
A bigger problem is that the Blues have failed to score in four consecutive games for the first time in ISL history.
A loss to the gaurs would make them their worst start in the league. Concerns will be high in the final third for Simon Grayson’s men as they have scored the fewest goals so far, with just two goals in six games.
Grayson has been trying to find the right combination this season for quite some time, but he has yet to find the solution Bengaluru desperately needs.
Skipper Sunil Chetri was left on the bench for the last game, while Dane Farouk was deployed on the left flank. However, even this game did not pay off.
“After the Mumbai game, the players saw me from the other side in the dressing room. Publicly, I always supported the players, but the game in the second half did not require any support from me, because it was not good enough, ”said Grayson.
“But after that, I saw a good reaction and a positive attitude from the players in training, and also noted an advantage that they still lacked. It’s a reaction in training but we have to see how she reacts on the field against Goa,” he added.
Both teams have met 11 times in the ISL, including the 2018-19 final. FC Bengaluru lifted the trophy that day.
In total, the Blues have won five victories, while the Gours have only won three in this match.
