It’s officially the last weekend of the season, which means it’s Rival Week. Short of a few games, this weekend should be the best college football weekend of the year.
7. Rutgers @ Maryland, 11:00 a.m. on BTN
Maryland and Rutgers is a rivalry we never needed, but we have. I would have to believe that both of these fan bases would agree with this opinion. Since joining the Big Ten, Maryland has led the series 5–3. There have been some more intense games in this series, but it’s still not worth your time on a Saturday morning. Maryland is 14 points ahead and I expect Maryland to win even more.
6. Michigan, Pennsylvania, 15:00, FS1
There are many distractions in Michigan right now. It’s just that several players have been charged this week in an incident that happened in Michigan a few weeks ago. That being said, Michigan could qualify for the Bowl if it wins that game. Although I doubt that this is happening. Penn State is a good team this year and should have the opportunity to play in the New Year’s Eve six-bowl game if they can win comfortably. Penn State has a lead of 10.
5. Illinois @ Northwestern 2:30pm on BTN
Illinois is still going to be in for a good bowl game, but their path to a Big Ten title game is narrow right now. They need Iowa and Perdue to lose this week and I don’t see that happening. The Northwestern still only has ONE win this year and that was in Week 0 against Nebraska. Illinois should win by a wide margin, but I wouldn’t be shocked if this game comes closer than expected. Illinois has a lead of 13.
4. Purdue @ Indiana 2:30pm on BTN
Purdue’s path to the Big Ten title game is also narrow, but not as narrow as Illinois’. If Iowa loses on Friday, Purdue must win the game against Indiana. Otherwise, this game will have very little value, except for the rivalry within the state. Last week Indiana beat Michigan State in OT but I still think Purdue should win this tournament. Purdue currently enjoys 10.5 support.
3. Nebraska, Iowa, Friday, 3:00 pm, BTN
This has grown into a serious rivalry over the past few years, though Iowa has dominated it over the last decade. Iowa has won 7 games in a row, but the last 5 games have all been by the same score. On top of that, the two schools don’t like each other and that makes for great twitter content. Iowa could take the west with a win on Friday and I expect Iowa City to have a crisis if they don’t win. Iowa is favored at 10.5.
2. Minnesota @ Wisconsin 2:30pm ESPN
This game used to be an automatic win for Wisconsin. But Minnesota has won the ax twice in the previous four meetings. None of these teams have had a year to show off, but there is still a lot of juice in this game. Check out our website for all the content that will lead you to a very intriguing Saturday game. Wisconsin is favored at 3.5.
1. Michigan, Ohio, 11:00, FOX.
This game has major national implications. The winner of this game is almost guaranteed to appear in the college football playoffs this year. Ohio State hasn’t lost this game in the 9 years leading up to last year’s game, which was won by Michigan. This should be one of the best games of the year and everyone should be watching at 11am. It should also be noted that we don’t like any of these teams and any of them will dominate whoever ends up in the Big Ten Championship game next week. Ohio State has a 7.5 lead.
