There’s no better time to watch movies than the holiday season, and this year, audiences are flocking to watch movies like Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Devotion, Fabelmansas well as Bones and all. Typically the top crowd contender for Thanksgiving, Disney’s latest animated film, Strange world, doesn’t quite knock the box office out of this world. While it may have received a good amount of positive reviews, Variety reports that the film only made $800,000 from Tuesday previews, giving it a rocky start to the holiday weekend.
And while these preliminary figures indicate that Disney won’t gobble up the $30 million to $40 million that Strange world originally intended to feast for the next five days, the jig is not quite ready. Because this is an animated production, the target audience for this feature is younger people who probably won’t show up for early Tuesday screenings. There is some chance that we can still expect to see a large number of people – both young and old (er) – embark on a journey to unknown worlds with the Clayde family.
Directed by: Academy Award winner Don HallBig hero 6, Moana, Raya and the last dragon), Disney Strange world centered around the Clayde family, a famous line of explorers. Unlike the rest of his relatives, Seeker Clayde (Jake Gyllenhaal) likes to stay in one place, living and working on his farm with his wife Meridian Clayde (Gabriel Union) and their son Ethan Clayde (Jabuki Young-White).
But when Avalon’s president Callisto Mal (Lucy Liu) approaches the Seeker and his family on an emergency mission to the far reaches of the universe, the trio quickly join the team and embark on the most epic adventure of their lives.
Along with the adventurous aspect of Disney’s latest animated film, Strange world also focuses on family dynamics, putting parent-child relationships first and foremost. As they travel the world, the Seeker comes face to face with his long-lost father and renowned explorer Jaeger Kleid (Dennis Quaid), and the duo are forced to mend their torn relationship to ensure the mission’s success.
The leading cast is joined by an ensemble that includes Karan Soni (Dead Pool), Alan Tudyk (Resident Alien), Adeline Anthony, Abraham Benrubi (Ambulance), Jonathan Melo, Nick Dodani (Atypical) and Francesca Reale (very strange things).
As mentioned earlier, Disney Strange world up against a huge lineup of adult films with stiff competition from all sides. Although Black Panther: Wakanda Forever out in theaters for almost two weeks, the Marvel blockbuster is likely to garner another wave of superhero fans rushing to theaters over the weekend. Meanwhile, there is a J.D. Dillard film based on real wartime events. Devotionwhich starred Jonathan Majors and Glen Powell and a cannibal romance by Luca Guadagnino, Bones and allled by Timothée Chalamet and Taylor Russell.
While the odds may be stacked against Disney, it’s completely within the realm of possibility for Strange world to rake in your initial projected income. After all, who doesn’t love a heartwarming Disney movie just in time for the holiday season?
